Got Water? Challenges & Solutions for South Maui

water April 9
Kihei Charter School, Kihei, Maui, HI
Doors open 6 p.m.
Program begins: 6:30 p.m.

As we carefully balance our water resources between the environment, agriculture, and urban development, how soon will Maui reach its existing water use capacity? Our meeting tonite features presentations and a panel discussion designed to increase our understanding of where we get our water in South Maui, how much water it takes to have an oasis in the desert, and what we need to do to have water sustainability starting from the source at Na Wai Eha (the four waters), piping it to our homes and gardens, using and conserving water, disposing of treated water and returning it to the ocean.

Panelists and speakers will be Michael Howden, Chair of Board of Water Supply; Steve Parabicoli of Wastewater Reclamation; former Maui County Mayor Alan Arakawa; and John Duey of Hui O Na Wai Eha. Moderator will be Phyllis Robinson, Core Member, South Maui Sustainability and Board of Water Supply member.

Learn about the parts of an independent power system. Explore new and old battery technologies. During the class you will see the systems working and producing power. We look at the latest in charge controllers and inverters, the electronic boxes that control and convert the power. You can see how much power is available and learn how to adapt your home to become more energy efficient.

The teacher, Dr. Steve Blake, has built and lived on independent power for decades. Read the Rob Report about Steve’s work.
