We had a great event at the Kihei Charter School on 9/11/2008.   Speakers were Vincent Mina, co-owner of Hanu Aina Greens and Gabriel Audant.   The topic of the evening was about growing foods in South Maui and we learned tons of great ideas and tips from speakers and each other.

As I was typing in the notes, I kept thinking that there is so much we can do…but how do we measure our success? How do we establish meaningful and measurable goals. It may make a difference in what programs we choose and how we set them up. Here are some ideas:
    – Amount of group resources distributed (yards of soil, compost…)
    – Number of people participating in seed/cutting exchange
    – Pounds of food shared/donated from “members”
    – Number of committed South Maui growers.

I think it would be good to take the notes above that people requested on ways we could support backyard gardens and create some kind of ongoing dialouge with these folks on the blog. I will bring this up at the next core group meeting.
