Waste-to-energy projects coming to Maui

Maui County Landfill Mayor Alan Arakawa’s administration is exploring ways to turn waste into energy at the Central Maui Landfill.

The mayor announced plans last week for the county to look into partnering with a company to burn the island’s waste at the landfill and create electricity.

County Environmental Coordinator Rob Parsons said that the mayor’s renewable energy vision could generate as much as 15 megawatts of power.
